USA finish atop Pool C with 5-0 record
BARI, Italy, September 18, 2018 – The United States completed a
successful journey throughout the first round of the FIVB Men’s
Volleyball World Championship after a straight set victory 3-0
(25-12, 25-18, 25-13) over Tunisia on Tuesday.
After winning their first two matches in five sets, the American
squad got the 9 points possible in the next three to finish atop
Pool C with a 5-0 record and 13 points.
Taylor Sander, Maxwell Holt and Aaron Russell were the best
scorers for the winners with 13, 12 and 10 points, respectively,
while Ali Bongui had seven points for Tunisia.
The USA team outclassed Tunisia in the aces category 17-2 with
Holt leading the way with 6 of his own.
In Ruse, Bulgaria, Earvin Ngapeth led France to a remarkable win
against Canada 3-1 (25-22, 25-21, 22-25, 25-17) in front of over
2500 spectators in “Arena Monbat”.
Both teams delivered a great volleyball spectacle and delighted
the crowd in the final match of Pool B. This victory brought
France to the third place in the group and let Canada down to
the fourth position.
The biggest leader for the Europeans in this battle was Ngapeth
who finished as a top scorer with 22 points, including 3 aces.
