SANTO DOMINGO, Dominican Republic, September 7,
2021 – United States qualified in first position
of the standings at the Men’s Volleyball Pan
American Cup after winning a close match against
Canada 3-2 (21-25, 25-18, 31-29, 18-25, 15-13)
on Tuesday.
Grant Sloane led United States with 17 points
followed by Cole Gillis (14), Merrit McHenry
(12) and Shane Holdaway (10).
Canada’s Brodie Hofer and Jesse Elser each
tallied 24 points as top scorers in the match
while Isaiah Olfert and Jackson Howe finished
with 12 apiece.
Andy Read, coach of United States: “Both teams
played really hard. It was a high level game of
volleyball, very entertaining to watch. We were
focused on the possibility of playing five sets
and we are so glad about finishing first in the
pool”.
Ben Josephson, coach of Canada: “We lost many
opportunities of winning this match. We’ll have
to look back and see where we failed. The USA
team did a good job and their services worked
perfectly. Hopefully we can see each other in
the final. All depends on tomorrow’s results”. |
