USA finish pool play with 3-1 record in FIVB U18
ISMAILIA, Egypt, September 9, 2019 – The United States
overpowered Canada 3-0 (25-10, 25-13, 25-16) to wrap up pool
B play at the 2019 FIVB Volleyball Girls' U18 World
Championship on Monday.
Both teams have secured spots in the round of 16 to be
contested starting on Tuesday. The United States were second
in Pool B with a 3-1 record while Canada finished in third
place with a 2-2 mark.
They will be joined by Puerto Rico who lost to China on
Monday by 3-0 (25-16, 25-18, 25-18) and finished with a 13
record in Pool A.
Mexico lost to Italy in five sets 3-2 (25-15,
21-15, 22-25, 25-20, 15-12) finishing with a 0-4 record and
will compete in the playoff for the 17 to 20 positions with
Cameroon, Belarus and Congo.
Sixteen teams progress to a playoff (first of Pool A against
fourth of Pool B etc). The winners of the playoff matches
will advance to the quarterfinals, semifinals and finals to
be classified from first to eight, while the losers of their
playoff match will play classification matches, with a
similar quarterfinals, semifinals and finals system, to be
classified from places nine to 16.
In Tuesday’s matches, Puerto Rico will go against Italy,
Canada against Brazil and United States against Egypt.
