USA improve to a 4-0 record

SANTO DOMINGO, Dominican Republic, September 16, 2021 – United States beat Cuba in straight sets 3-0 (25-11, 25-17, 25-18) to improve to a 4-0 record at the Women’s Volleyball Pan American Cup on Thursday.

Cuba, still looking for its first win, will play Puerto Rico on Friday in a contest between winless sides.

Veronica Jones-Perry came back into action after one day of rest and responded with a match-high 14 points for the winners. Alison Bastianelli added 11, with four aces included, and Lindsay Stalzer chipped in with 9.

Yamilena Ruiz and Dezirett Madan tallied 6 points apiece as the top Cuban scorers.

Karch Kiraly, coach of United States: “Our young setter Ellen Glock did a great job both yesterday and today. Our team did not start very well in the game as we made several mistakes that we later corrected and came out with victory”.

Joel Olazabal, coach of Cuba: “In this game we already had to replace some players because they are tired due to lack of training with many body pains. The truth is that it has been difficult to come in these conditions, so we are making an effort to play our best.”
