USA improves to 5-0 at FIVB World Cup
HAMAMATSU, Japan, September 19, 2019 - USA completed a sweep
of their five matches in Hamamatsu in the 2019 FIVB
Volleyball Women's World Cup after a straight-set win
against Brazil 3-0 (25-22, 25-18, 25-19) on Thursday.
Kelsey Robinson led four American players who scored in
double figures with 15 points. She was supported by Andrea
Drews, Chiaka Ogbogu and Haleigh Washington with 14, 12 and
10 points, respectively.
Gabriela Guimaraes and Drussyla Costa each scored 12 points
for Brazil (3-2).
USA coach Karch Kiraly: "We have tremendous respect for this
coach and his staff and his team. Brazil is one of the great
programmes in the world of international volleyball, so we
always know it will be difficult when we play. Our team did
a nice job of executing our strategy today and we’re happy
to get the win."
Brazil coach Jose Roberto Guimaraes: "Congratulations to USA
for today. They missed very little, had a great strategy,
served well and played with speed. They were almost perfect,
I’d say. We couldn’t match their fast start. We started to
play our game after a couple of timeouts, but by then it was
too late to make a comeback."
