USA lose in five sets, Puerto Rico at 0-2
KRAKOW, Poland, September 2, 2014 – Iran provided another major
hit at FIVB Men’s World Championship in Poland as they claimed
their second win in Krakow, this time in a thrilling five-setter
over USA by 3-2 (25-23, 25-19, 19-25, 18-25, 17-15).
USA’s Matthew Anderson and Taylor Sander emerged as the game’s
most prolific scorers, with 26 and 25 points respectively, but
it wasn’t enough for a complete American comeback.
Meanwhile, Iran was led by Amir Ghafour (21 points), a key
player in the final set. Teammate Mojtaba Mirzajanpour chipped
in with 13 tallies.
With an amazing display from opposite player Bram Van Den Dries,
Belgium enjoyed a comfortable win over Puerto Rico in the second
Tuesday match, by 3-0 (25-19, 25-17, 25-20).
Van Den Dries placed atop of all the scorers with a nice total
of 19 points, followed by teammates Sam Deroo (13) and Kevin
Klinkenberg (10).
Puerto Rico, on the other hand, had only players with single
numbers, as Maurice Torres and Mannix Roman finished with 9
points each. |
