FUKUOKA, Japan, October 1, 2019 - Argentina defeated United
States in the first match of the 2019 World Cup 3-2 (25-21,
25-20, 19-25, 21-25, 15-12) on Monday in Fukuoka, Japan.
Meanwhile in Nagano, Canada was overwhelmed by Brazil 3-0
(25-14, 25-22, 25-14).
The U.S. will try to come back against Italy on Tuesday
while Canada meets Russia.
Argentina led in kills (70-59) and aces (7-5). The teams
tied in blocks (7-7). The U.S. scored 32 points on Argentina
errors while committing 21. The U.S. kill efficiency was
53.6. Argentina’s was 54.7.
Martin Ramos had a match-high 20 points for Argentina,
followed by Agustin Loser with 18 Outside hitter Aaron
Russell led the U.S. Men with 18 points, opposite Matt
Anderson scored 15, including hree aces and middle blocker
Jeff Jendrik totaled 15 points, including three blocks.
Outside hitter Thomas Jaeschke totaled 12 points.
Alan Souza and Ricardo Lucarelli were the best scorers for
Brazil with 14 and 12 points, respectively, while Nicholas
Hoag and Timothy Maar each had 8 points for Canada.
