TOKYO, Japan, July 29, 2021 – United States held
off a resilient Turkey to claim a 3-2 (25-19,
25-20, 17-20, 20-25, 15-12) victory in Pool B of
the women’s volleyball tournament at the Tokyo
2020 Olympic Games on Thursday.
It was the third victory without losses for the
United States, while Turkey dropped its record
to 1-2.
The strong blocking by the Americans proved to
be a key in the tie-breaker. They finished with
a 16-11 advantage in the category.
Jordan Thompson was the top scorer by the
winners with 18 points, followed by Jordan
Larson and Haleigh Washington with 15 and 13
points, respectively.
Meryem Boz had a match-high 19 points for
Turkey, followed by Hande Baladin with 17 and
Eda Erdem and Zehra Gunes with 14 and 12 points,
respectively. |
