ANKARA, Turkey, July 3, 2015 – No. 1 world-ranked USA Women’s
Team opened their campaign at the 2015 FIVB World Grand Prix
with a 3-1 (25-27, 25-21, 25-22, 25-23) victory over Italy at
Bakent Volleyball Hall in Ankara on Friday.
The winners trailed 13-14 in blocks and held a 6-3 advantage in
serving aces.
Kelsey Robinson led four USA players with double figures in the
scores with 16 points. She was joined by Kimberly Hill and
Nicole Fawcett with 14 and 13, respectively, while Karsta Lowe
added 10 in the victory.
Indre Sorokaite was Italy’s top scorer with a match-high 17
points, followed by Lucia Bosetti (13), Alessia Gennari (11) and
Martina Guiggi (10).
In Ningbo, China, hosts China beat a decimated Dominican
Republic in straight sets 3-0 (25-15, 25-12, 25-9) in Pool B of
the World Group.
Ruoqi Hui and Xinyue Yuan topped China with 13 and 11 points,
respectively. Erasma Moreno tallied 10 points for the Dominican
team.
Most of the Dominican top players stayed at home in preparation
for the tournament of the upcoming Pan American Games in
Toronto. |
