USA remains undefeated in Group A
PONCE, PUERTO RICO, August 7, 2023.-
United States extended its undefeated record to 3-0 by beating Colombia
in consecutive sets on the third day of the XX Senior Women's Volleyball
Pan American Cup at the Juan “Pachín” Vicéns Auditorium from Ponce.
The United States won by scores of 25-14, 25-21, 25-19; and had four
players in double digits.
This important victory places them one victory away from qualifying
directly for the semifinals.
Mims Taylor, from the United States, was the best scorer of the game
with 16 points (13 kills,1 block, 2 direct serves); Simone Lee, 13
points (13 attacks); Madeleine Gates, 11 points (6 kills, 3 blocks, 2
direct serves); and captain Sarah Parsons with 10 points (6 kills, 2
blocks, 2 direct serves).
For Colombia, Valerin Carabali with 10 points (7 attacks, 3 blocks);
Dayana Segovia with nine points (6 kills, 3 blocks); and Ana Karina
Olaya with seven points (5 attacks, 2 direct services).
The United States rests tomorrow and will have its last match of the
preliminary round on Thursday against Canada at 6:00 p.m. Precisely,
Canada will be Peru's rival tomorrow at 4:00 p.m.
Brad Rostratter, Coach of United States: “Tonight
was a good match for the team. We played well against a very tough
opponent. Lots for us to improve on and work on as the tournament
continues on, but we will continue to take each day ahead of us. As best
we can”.
Antonio Rizola Neto, Coach of Colombia:
“It was a match in which Colombia did what they could against a
structured and very strong team. We have two games left and the goal is
to go out and win both because the goal is to get into the semifinals”.
