USA score easy victory over Mexico

CAÑETE, Peru, June 20, 2017 – United States roared past Mexico in straight sets 3-0 (25-13, 25-15-25-13) to remain undefeated in Pool A of the XVI Women’s Volleyball Pan American Cup by Movistar at Lolo Fernandez Coliseum on Tuesday.

The United States have a 4-0 win-loss record with 18 points while Mexico is still looking for their first win and sits at 0-4.

Andrea Drews and Madison Kingdom topped the USA scoring with 15 and 12 points, respectively, while Mallory McCage and Megan Courtney added 9 and 7 in the loss. Mexico’s Andrea Rangel finished with 9 points in the victory.

The winners outclassed their opponents in blocks (11-2), aces (13-1) and attacks (36-20).

The United States close their preliminary phase schedule facing Argentina on Wednesday while Mexico meets Colombia.

Andrea Drews, Top scorer of United States: “Different than yesterday today we played more relaxed and secure. We are satisfied with the job done thus far and we will keep battling in every match to reach the finals.”

Karch Kiraly, Coach of United States: “Our strategy today was neutralize Andrea Rangel who is the main offensive weapon of Mexico. Also we tried to improve our system of communication in the court, something we missed in the match against Puerto Rico.”

Andrea Rangel, Captain of Mexico: “We knew it was going to be difficult but we entered the court with attitude and to enjoy the game.

We didn’t go to win but to do a god job and our best effort. Our main goal is to win against Colombia tomorrow and to keep growing for future competitions.”

Ricardo Naranjo, Coach of Mexico: “We know the United States are a powerhouse so we talked to the girls about not being afraid of making mistakes. If you look at the score, the difference was big, but analyzing the plays there are strategies that worked for us and we will continue working.”
