CALLAO, Lima, June 13, 2015 – Reigning world champions United
States dominated Puerto Rico in straight sets 3-0 (25-22, 25-12,
25-18) in the last match of opening day in Pool A at the XIV
Women’s Pan American Cup taking place at Miguel Grau Coliseum of
seaside city of Callao.
Alexandra Klineman of United States dominated at the net and was
the most outstanding player of the match with 14 points,
including 11 attacks, two blocks and one ace. For the Puerto
Rican squad the best scorer was Stephanie Enright who finished
with 12 points.
Yarimar Rosa, captain of Puerto Rico, commented: “We didn’t show
our real capacity, we need to improve many details. Playing
against United States is an experience that helps us to move
closer of our objectives.”
Kristin Hildebrand, captain of United States, said: “It is good
to start with a victory. It has been a thrilling match with our
team using some new girls who have adjusted quickly to our
squad.”
Jose Mieles, coach of Puerto Rico, said: “Obviously, I am not
satisfied with the performance of my team. We just played at a
better level in the qualifier for the World Cup and I had high
hopes about facing this match in better conditions.”
David Hunt, coach of United States, said: “Our goal is to
develop our game better. This tournament will allow our new
players to adjust to the game system I want in my team.” |
