AMSTERDAM, The Netherlands, July 3, 2015 – USA men’s team of
Nick Lucena and Theodore Brunner remains as the only NORCECA
representative still in contention at the FIVB Beach Volleyball
World Championships.
Two other USA men’s teams were eliminated in the quarterfinals
round while the two women’s duos representing Canada and USA
also left the tournament.
Lucena advanced to a semifinal match against Brazil’s Alison
Cerutti and Bruno Schmidt in The Hague following their 2-0
(21-19, 21-19) victory over Jefferson Santos and Cherif
Younousse of Qatar.
In Apeldoorn, Cerutti and Schmidt beat Jacob Gibb and Casey
Patterson 2-0 (21-12, 21-17) while the home team of Reinder
Nummerdor and Christiaan Varenhorst won a thrilling match
against John Hyde and Tri Bourne 2-0 (23-21, 23-21).
In Amsterdam, the Brazilian women’s team of Juliana Felisberta
Da Silva and María Antonelli defeated Canadians Sarah Pavan and
Heather Bansley 2-0 (25-23, 21-18), while Katrin Holtwick and
Ilka Semmler of Germany saw off Lauren Fendrick and Brooke Sweat
of United States 2-0 (21-18, 21-15). |
