GUATEMALA CITY, Guatemala, May 24, 2022.- United
States won their second match of the preliminary
round at the Boys’ U19 Pan American Cup, beating
Costa Rica 3-0 (25-20, 25-17, 25-15) in
Guatemala City.
United States has 2-0 record and with one more
win will sweep pool B to move directly into
semifinals and book one of the four tickets to
the FIVB World Championship.
The U.S. prevailed in every skill, 40-16 in
kills, 10-4 in blocks and 6-2 in serves, while
committing 19 unforced errors. Costa Rica ended
with 30 errors.
Two players of USA scored double figures,
outside hitter Victor Loiola with a match-high
of 15 points, from 13 kills and one point from
both blocks and aces, and outside hitter Quinn
Bishop contributed with 14 points on 9 kills,
one block and 2 aces.

On the last day of pool-play, Costa Rica plays
Chile and United States faces Mexico.
Victor Loiola, Top scorer United States: “We
came out a little flat, but picked up as a team
to get better and better; we kept firing and
everything came together. Everybody was happy on
and off the court; I believe that’s our best
skill”.
Charles Sullivan, Head Coach United States: “It
was good to see more guys on our roster. Costa
Rica made it extremely difficult, they started
off without giving us any errors, forcing us to
execute. We’re trying to find our rhythm, our
team identity. Everyone has now the role that
needs to be done to play successfully and bring
into our next match”.
