USA, Canada and Puerto Rico secure spots among top 16 at
FIVB U18
ISMAILIA, Egypt, September 8, 2019 – The United States
dominated Korea 3-0 (25-11, 25-17, 25-13) on Sunday to
improve to 2-1 in Pool B of the FIVB Girls’ U18 World
Championship taking place in Ismailia.
Team USA, now qualified to the Eight Finals (Top 16)
concludes pool play against Canada on Monday. The top four
teams in each of the four pools of five countries advance to
the Eight Finals for crossover play with the winners
advancing to the quarterfinals and losers falling into the
9-16 classification matches.
Emily Londot scored a team-high 13 points, while Devyn
Robinson totaled 10 points.
Team USA previously defeated Mexico 3-0 (25-21, 25-21,
25-16) but lost to Italy 3-2 (20-25, 21-25, 25-22, 25-23,
15-13).
Canada is also qualified to the Top 16 Round after victories
over Korea 3-1 (19-25, 25-23, 25-20, 25-22) and Mexico 3-2
(15-25, 22-25, 25-18, 25-15, 15-11) and a loss to Italy 3-0
(25-20, 25-7, 25-19).
Mexico is 0-3 and next plays Italy on Monday. The Mexicans
lost to Korea 3-1 (23-25, 25-22, 25-19, 25-23).
In Cairo, Puerto Rico is playing in Pool A having lost its
first two matches to Egypt 3-1 (26-24, 20-25, 30-28, 25-21)
and to Brazil 3-0 (25-12, 25-20, 25-13).
They overcame Cameroon to claim a five-set victory on Sunday
that earned them a spot in the Top 16 and then meet China on
Monday.
The Puerto Ricans erased a two-set deficit to win 3-2
(19-25, 24-26, 25-11, 25-21, 15-9) with a 26-point
performance from Sofia Victoriá.
