USA-A leads seven qualified to men quarterfinals
OCHO RIOS, Jamaica, November 15, 2019 - USA-A’s Chaim Schalk
and Jeremy Casebeer were among seven teams to cement a
spot in the main draw quarterfinals at the end of the first
day of the tenth and final stop of the 2019 NORCECA Beach
Volleyball Tour.
Competing in a three-team Pool A round-robin, Schalk and
Casebeer who won last week in Hato Mayor, Dominican Republic
beat Canada-B’s Max Losier and Fiodar Kazhamiaka 2-0
(22-20, 21-15) and will face Guatemalans Andy Blanco and
Luis Garcia who also beat Canada-B 2-1 (21-16, 16-21, 15-13)
to also qualify ahead of their pool decider on Saturday.
Likewise, in Pool B which also comprised three teams,
Nicaraguans Ruben Mora and Denis Jose Lopez as well as
Puerto Ricans’ Joel Rodriguez and Juan Ribas, both secured
quarterfinal spots ahead of their pool deciders on Saturday
morning.
This after Rodriguez and Ribas blanked United States Virgin
Islands’ Marc Lomeli and Anthony Pippen 2-0 (21-13, 21-15),
and Mora and Lopez won versus Lomeli and Pippen also, 2-0
(21-16, 21-16).
In Pool C, Canada-A duo Jake MacNeil and Liam Kopp and
Trinidad and Tobagos Daneil Williams and Joel Theodore set
up a pool decider on Saturday after 2-0 starts in their
four-team series.
MacNeil and Kopp won 2-0 (21-5, 21-12) over Jamaica-B
pairing Owayne Lawrence, and Triston Hitchman , and also
defeated Arubans Angela Fransua 2-1 (21-18, 19-21, 15-12).
And Williams and Theodore
topped Aruba 2-0 (21-16, 21-13), and Jamaica-B 2-0 (21-12,
21-13).
USA-B’s Paul Lotman an Miles Partain are the lone qualifiers
from Pool D thus far after beating Jamaica-A’s Ryck Webb
and Noley Ferguson 2-0 (21-14, 21-10), and Salvadorans,
Carlos Escobar and David Vargas 2-0 (21-8, 21-12). Jamaica-A
and El Salvador both have 1-1 records and meet on Saturday,
with a quarterfinal spot at stake.
