USA-B debutants Davis, Wheeler conquer Bonaire
KRALENDIJK, Bonaire, September 28, 2019 - USA-B first-time
team-mates Aurora Davis and Alexandra Wheeler completed a
dream tournament when they defeated experienced Mexican pair
of Zaira Orellana and Martha Revuelta in the women´s final
at the seventh-leg of the 2019 NORCECA Beach Volleyball Tour
Circuit.
Davis and Wheeler won the closely fought encounter 2-0
(26-24, 21-19) and speaking after they were both delighted
and surprised at the same time.
The taller of two players, Wheeler said it was super fun to
play in a final against a quality team like Mexico, and to
come out on top made the occasion much more fun.
“It was a match that could have gone either way, these are
matches you always dream about playing and I am just glad
that we won”, said Wheeler.
Davis added,” It was our first time playing together as a
team and for us to get a win at this amazing venue was
great”.
When competition resumed on the final day, Orellana and
Revuelta defeated Canada-A´s Alina Dormann and Victoria
Cowley 2-0 (21-15, 21-17 and Davis and Wheeler beat
Guatemalans Estefanie Bethancourt and Natalia Giron 2-0 as
well (21-19, 21-17) in their final-four matches.
Bethancourt and Giron secured the bronze by beating Dormann
and Cowley 2-0 (21-18, 21-18).
USA-A pair, Melissa Fuchs and Lindsay Fuller ended in fifth
spot after easing past Nicaraguans Valeria Mendoza and
Lolette Rodriguez 2-0 (21-19, 21-17) in their playoff while
Trinidad and Tobago´s Rheeza Grant and Malika Davidson
battled past El Salvadorans Kathya Vasquez and Fernanda
Vargas 2-1 (14-21, 21-17, 15-11) for seventh.
Canada-B players Jae-Lyn Visscher and Alyssa Wolf ended
ninth thanks to a 2-0 (21-13, 21-18) win over Angjeny
Tolentino and Leandra Savonije and in the 11th place
playoff, Jackie Toussaint and Mali Rafini of Aruba beat
Bonaire´s Sara Lorini and Deyanira Verolme 2-0 (21-10,
21-3).
