BRIDGETOWN, Barbados, December 7, 2015 - It was a case of
sibling might as Khrysti Rosa and her older sister Khrystin Rosa
combined for the United States Virgin Islands to defeat
Guadeloupe in straight sets on Day One of the 10th CAZOVA
Juniors here in the Wildey Gym, Bridgetown.
Outside hitter Khrysti racked up 16 points and middle/opposite
Khrystin added 14 to blunt the counter of Guadeloupe's best
effort which came from Remyka Boudine who made six kills and
serve two aces for USVI to take the match 25-23, 25-14, 25-19.
Both teams seemed equally matched in the non scoring skills of
digging, passing and setting. Ironically, Guadeloupe with 32
aces were one better than the winners. But, a 27-18 spiking
advantage as well as a 6-0 blocking performance gave the Virgin
Islands the straight sets win.
Coach of USVI Raphael Isacc was relieved to get his team's
campaign started on a successful note. "We wanted to get the
first game out of the way and the early nerves so that we could
focus on the remainder of the tournament as well as look towards
the medal round," said Isacc.
Guadeloupe's Douglas Pascal gave credit to his opponent's
although he was disappointed to lose his first match. "Our
girls played in patches which I attribute to their inexperience
and early jitters. We could have taken the first set which
could have made a big difference.
"USVI handled the pressure better to win that first set and then
took the game but I am confident that we will bounce back in our
remaining matches," said Pascal. |
