Undefeated march for Dominican Republic, hit the road to Semis
CORDOBA, Mexico, November 17, 2014 - Dominican Republic closed
the pool phase undefeated at the XXII Central American and
Caribbean Games after beating Cuba 3-0 (25-20, 25-19, 25-19).
Bethania de la Cruz scored 15 points while Gina Mambru and
Annerys Vargas tallied 12 apiece for Dominican Republic. Melissa
Vargas scored 13 for Cuba, while Alena Rojas closed with 12.
Dominican Republic controlled the blocking game 12-10, and
closed with a 5-2 ballance in services. Both sides surrendered
19 points by error.
“Dominican Republic played their game and did things right. They
won. For next round we are able to play against any team,” said
Sulian de la Caridad Matienzo, captain of Cuba.
“We are glad for this victory. It is not an obligation but a
commitment to go further an fight for the medals,” stated
Bethania de la Cruz de Pena, captain of Dominican Republic.
For Dominican Republic libero, Brenda Castillo the Central
American and Caribbean Games have been a great experience to
share with the fans. “I feel a lot of appreciation and I thank
the lord for all their support. We have been working hard for
this,” she said.
“I want to congratulate Dominican Republic, they were a better
team in all the lines. There were some good moments on our side
as the players were so calmed, but Dominican Republic deserved
this victory,”stated Juan Carlos Gala, coach of Cuba.
“We are very glad. We have been playing seriously for it and
worked hard. I have also been on the other side. This is a big
commitment and we must keep on working during the tournament,”
Dominican Republic’s coach, Marcos Kwiek exposed. |
