United States Tops Mexico, Sets Up

Showdown with Canada for Semifinal Berth

SANTO DOMINGO, Dominican Republic, August 22, 2026.– The United States defeated Mexico 3-0 (25-19, 25-20, 25-17) in Pool A of the 2026 NORCECA Women’s Continental Championship at the “Prof. Ricardo Gioriver Arias” Volleyball Palace.

The United States improved to 2-0 and will face unbeaten Canada (2-0) on Sunday for first place in Pool A and a direct berth to the semifinals. Mexico (0-2) will take on Trinidad and Tobago (0-2) on the final day of pool play for a spot in the quarterfinals. The event also serves as a qualifier for the 2027 FIVB Women’s World Championship.

The United States held the advantage in attacks (44-30) and blocks (9-2), while Mexico led in serves (5-4).

Avery Skinner led the U.S. offense with 14 points on 11 kills, two blocks, and one ace. Logan Eggleston followed with 11 points, while Chiaka Ogbogu and Stephanie Samedy added nine each.

For Mexico, Uxue Guereca led the scoring with 12 points, followed by Grecia Castro with 10.

Nicola Negro, Mexico coach: “We played two high-level sets today. We faced a tough opponent like the United States, and we were able to play a good level of volleyball for two and a half sets. However, at the end of the third set, our level dropped, and the Americans were able to close out the match.”
