United States get easy win over Nicaragua in NORCECA U18

TEGUCIGALPA, Honduras. August 27, 2018 - The United States started the Norceca Under-18 Women's Volleyball Championship with a victory over Nicaragua 3-0 (25-6, 25-11, 25-12) in the Gym # 2 Jorge A. Galeano, of the Olympic Villa of this capital.

The winning team dominated all aspects of the game, with advantage in attacks (35-8), blocking (5-2) and service (7-0), conceding 19 unforced errors, by 28 of the opponent.

Allison Jacobs, captain of USA, was the top scorer of the match with 10 points, while Devyn Robinson and Caroline Crawford each had 9. For Nicaragua, Masiel Brenes scored 4 points.

Jacobs said that "this is a good victory, it was a really good game in general for our team, we were able to get everything we have and we started to work in the best possible way, besides enjoying together again on the court".

“For tomorrow, yes, we definitely have to play faster, tighten the service and improve the blocking, there we have something that is key and really important."

James Stone, USA coach: “We did a lot of things well this afternoon, but there are also some areas where we need to improve and practice more. It's just the first team game and I'm happy that we won. We try to create plays, be in the game, but there are always areas where we can improve".

“The attitude was very good, we celebrated each play, the good points, we made bad consecutive plays, but then we improved and that is what we intend to improve continuously”.

Maria Belén Arcia, captain of Nicaragua: "Despite the nerves we tried to make a good game, but we were affected by the reception. It was a nice experience to play against the United States, we took it as a warm up to prepare ourselves for what's coming."

Claudia Noguera, coach from Nicaragua: "I feel like we played pretty well, even though we had the United States in front and the nerves and emotion took over our players. They knew that this game was a preparation for the others that come to us, we must improve the reception and attack more. I'm sure this is the first time in all the categories that we face in the United States."
