United States got its first triumph in Group A
LIMA, Peru, May 6, 2019 - United States defeated the Dominican
Republic 3-0 with a scores of 25-17, 25-21, 25-23 in 1 hour 32
minutes of action in the Manuel Bonilla Coliseum of Miraflores
for their first win in Pool A of the U21 Pan American Cup.
The North American side showed greater strength in the fundament
of blocking (12-5), with 5 points by the middle blocker Canyon
Tuman. They also managed to dominate in attack (34-27) and
service (5.3).
The offense of the team coached by Spencer McLachlin was
distributed among their main attackers: Ryan Wilcox (13), Brett
Wildman (11) and Devin Joslyn (11). For the Dominican Republic,
the captain Bayron Valdez was the only one to reach the double
digits, registering a total of 12 points, with 10 points of
attack and two blocks.
Ryan Wilcox, highest scorer for the United States: We were
forced to win this game, so we played with great intensity from
the first point. It was a great team effort and we will fight to
repeat the victory against Cuba tomorrow.
Bayron Valdez, top scorer Dominican: We thought that tonight we
would have a better result, but we must turn the page and focus
on the game against Puerto Rico; and to be able to continue
advancing to obtain the ticket to the World Championship.
The United States team will fight for its second triumph when
they face the Cuban national team on Tuesday 7 at 18:00 hours.
Previously at 16:00 o'clock, Puerto Rico will collide with the
Dominican Republic. |
