SANTO DOMINGO, Dominican Republic, September 14,
2021 – United States improved to a 2-0 win-loss
record at the Women’s Volleyball Pan American
Cup after defeating Puerto Rico in straight sets
3-0 (25-19, 25-14, 25-17) on Tuesday.
Symone Williams-Abbott led three Americans with
double figures in scoring with 18 points,
including four aces. Veronica Jones-Perry added
16 with three aces and Alexandra Holston chipped
in with 13 tallies.
Gabriela Alicea had 8 points as the top scorer
for Puerto Rico who dropped to a 0-2 record.
Karch Kiraly, coach of United States: “My team
did a good job. Even though we didn’t have much
time of training, just a few days, I think we
will be improving day after day.”
Carlos Rodríguez, coach of Puerto Rico: “I think
today we had a lot better game than yesterday,
even though the result does not reflect it but
the change was from the sky to earth. All the
teams in the competition are taller than us, but
I hope we will play better from today on.” |
