Urrutia/Harrison of USA Champions at NORCECA in Bonaire

BONAIRE, Bonaire, November 3, 2024.- Jake Urrutia and Wyatt Harrison of the United States won the championship match of the seventh stage of the 2024 NORCECA Tour in Bonaire over Jake MacNeil and Arran Chambers of Canada 2-1 (21-13, 16-21, 15-10).

This is Jake’s and Wyatt’s first medal as a team.

For Wyatt it’s his first gold medal in NORCECA, he previously has won two silver medals and a bronze medal.

Wyatt said it was a good match and that he’s played against Jake MacNeil a number of times and that they usually go to three sets, “we had a really strong start winning the first set with a big advantage, but we knew they are especially good in making adjustments, which they did forcing a third set”. Wyatt added they completely had to re-set and focus on the third set.

Jake explained it was his first NORCECA this year, “last year I didn’t get to play too many NORCECA’s and I finished in second place when I did, so it’s nice to come with a new partner and getting a gold is exciting because we’re heading into a couple of big tournaments next week in Asia”. Jake added that it was a good competition, and that MacNeil and Chambers are a great team to face “we played against them twice and both matches were very close”.

In pool-play, Urrutia and Harrison also overtook MacNeil and Chambers in three sets.
