TORONTO, Canada, July 20, 2015. - Renzo Caiurus and Mauricio
Vieyto of Uruguay will face Ian Mehamed and Nicolas Capogrosso
of Argentina for the fifth place of the men’s Beach Volleyball
Tournament at the Toronto Pan American Games on Tuesday.
Renzo Cairus and Mauricio Vieyto of Uruguay downed Puerto Ricans
Roberto Rodriguez and Erick Haddock with no difficulties 2-0
(21-14, 21-12). It was a slow match, both pushed hard with
serves and spikes, but Uruguay benefit from Puerto Rico’s
numerous errors.
Ian Mehamed and Nicolas Capogrosso of Argentina advance to the
match for fifth place after the Canadian team of Josh Binstock
and Sam Schachter had to abandon the competition because Sam
Schachter was not in conditions to play due to a back injury.
Sam with an emotional speech to the thousands of fans at the
Chevrolet stadium said “first I want to thank you guys for your
support during these Games, I am not feeling well and the
doctor’s orders were it’s not safe for me to play; I am sorry
for not performing for you today. We have felt you love and good
energy for the last days”.
His partner, Josh indicated “Sam is being modest, his injury is
pretty serious. This is really tough for us and it’s something
we didn’t anticipate to happen. We wanted to express our
appreciation, we love you and thank you once again, and it has
been one of our best experiences ever to perform at home”.
The crowd gave the team a standing ovation and a big round of
applause.
The match between Daneil Williams and Fabian Whitfield of
Trinidad and Tobago and Venezuelan Jackson Henriquez and Jesus
Villafañe for ninth place was canceled due to the Venezuelan
team withdrawal from the competition.
