Use of social media a key goal in NORCECA Communications
SANTO DOMINGO, Dominican Republic, February 18, 2015 – The use
of social media as a tool to popularize and expand volleyball
and beach volleyball in the NORCECA region will be the main goal
during all the competitions scheduled in 2015.
The decision was taken on Wednesday on the occasion of the
annual meeting of the press and mass media commission held in
Santo Domingo.
“Social media is a fluid means of communication which is very
popular among the young people and that’s an important target as
we continue our efforts to expand our sport,” NORCECA President
Cristobal Marte Hoffiz said. “We need to emphasize on that topic
during all our competitions this year.”
Local press directors, young writers, players, coaches and
volunteers will be invited to join this initiative.
The members of the commission also discussed the growing
importance of the mixed zones to expand the coverage of the post
game but also agreed on maintaining the use of the press
conferences with the coaches and captains after the conclusion
of the matches.
“Mixed zones are very important but sometimes the difficulties
with the languages interfere with the communication with the
athletes,” NORCECA Press Officer Roosevelt Comarazamy explained.
“That’s the reason the post game press conferences are still a
reliable source of news following the contests.”
Another important decision was to dedicate more attention to the
age-group categories and to the best prospects on the teams.
“The stars of future are vital for the sport and we need to
start projecting them,” Arturo Couoh, secretary of the
commission said. “That’s the way we have to build our heroes.”
The commission also discussed items like the proposal of a
two-hour match and the evaluation of the different players for
the awards of the tournaments. |
