Varadero event gets underway with 22 matches

VARADERO, Cuba, July 15, 2016 – The eighth phase of the NORCECA Beach Volleyball Circuit gets underway in Varadero on Friday with 22 matches, 10 in the women’s segment, in the preliminary pool play to be held in three courts set up at the tourist complex Barcelo Solymar and Arenas Blancas.

Twenty-three duos -12 men’s and 11 women’s- hailing from 11 countries were confirmed at the General Technical Meeting that took place on Thursday night.

The countries represented are: Canada, Cuba, Curacao, Dominican Republic, El Salvador, Guatemala, Guadeloupe, Honduras, Mexico, United States and U.S. Virgin Islands.

Canada, Cuba, El Salvador, Guatemala, United States and U.S. Virgin Islands will compete in both gender, Guadeloupe and Mexico will have only female teams while Curacao, Dominican Republic and Honduras will compete only in the men’s division.

Pool C: Carlos Escobar/David Vargas (ESA), Felipe Humana-Paredes Christian Redmann (CAN-B), Dillon Lesniak/Ryan Ratelle (ISV) y Liosbel Méndez/Yendris Castillo (CUB-C).

Women’s Teams

Pool A: Megan Nagy/Marie-Christine Lapointe (CAN B), Lianma Flores/Leila Martínez (CUB- A), Kathya Vásquez/María Fernanda Vargas (ESA).

Pool B: Brandie Wilkerson/Julie Gordon (CAN-A), Stephanie Burnside/Ana Ríos (MEX), Melanie Valenciana/Amber Bennett (ISV) y Skylar Caputo/Corinne Quiggle  (USA-B).
