Venezuela defeat Trinidad and Tobago in the round for places 5
to 8
CORDOBA, Mexico, November 29, 2014 - Venezuela defeated Trinidad
and Tobago in straight sets (25-22, 25-15, 25-21) in the
classification round for places 5 to 8 of Men’s Competition at
XXII Central American and Caribbean Games.
Luis Arias Guzman scored 14 points, while Roberth Abreu closed
with 12 and Emerson Rodriguez with 11 for the Venezuelan team
that dominated in blocking 8-5, but Trinidad and Tobago was
above them in serving 4-3.
On the Trinidadian side, Ryan Stewart tallied 11 points. His
team surrendered 21 points, while Venezuela gave up 24.
“Congratulations fo Venezuela. I know after last night
experience against Mexico they were going to play at the same
level. At least my team played much better, struggled a little
bit on defense, but generally it was much better,” said Nolan
Tash, captain of Trinidad and Tobago.
“I’m happy for today’s victory. It is difficult to turn out the
page, but we did it after the loss against Mexico. We improved
in defense and blockiing, fortunatelly we could win and closed
the sets,” Kervin Pinerua, captain of Venezuela stated.
“Congratulations to team Venezuela. After a long match for them
last night, I think we played a good first set, only in the
second we were behind Venezuela but gave a good fight in the
third, but there is a lot more to go,” said Gideon Dickson coach
of Trinidad and Tobago.
“Today it was easy to play, because last night it was a tough
match. Very dangeroust and had to play very well mentally. Today
there were good plays and I had to use some players to observe
like number 16 Roberth Abreu as part of the process to the
Olympic Cycle,” said Vicenzo Nacci, coach of Venezuela. |
