Venezuela defeat a surprising Bahamas and improve to 2-1

CORDOBA, Mexico, November 27, 2014.- Venezuela defeated a surprising team of Bahamas 3-1 (25-12, 21-25, 15-13, 25-17) to improve their record 2-1 at XXII Central American and Caribbean Games.

Kervin Pinerua topped with 15 points, while Emmerson Rodríguez finished with 13 for Venezuela, while Fernando Gonzalez and Jesus Chourio, registered 10 apiece.

However, Prince Tanique Wilson, captain of Bahamas, scored 17 to be the leader of the match and Byron Ferguson closed with 11 for the Caribbean team that played with resilience in the second set. Renaldo Knowles aced three times for Bahamas.

Venezuela was superior in services 9-4 (including three aces by Pinerua) and won 11-7 in blocks.

“I feel we have played our best match at this tournament after winning that set, but fell short”, remarked Wilson about the Bahamas’ performance.

“I’m very angry. You cannot play without attitude. Playing is to train and to improve, but I didn’t see that in my team despite winning this match. To be honest, we did not play with our mind, like some other times. I can’t say I feel proud,” said  Vicenzo Nacci, coach of Venezuela.

“Congratulations to Venezuela for this victory. Today we were more focused. I’m proud of the way the guys played, specially in the second set. There were some lack of consistency, but I told them that we were here to get experience, and they had fun”, said Devince Smith.

“Bahamas played a great match. We started pretty well, but later on we fell in excess of confidence, relaxed a lot and could not win that set.  But we are still here with our goal that is to get in to the finals,” stated Kervin Pinerua, captain of Venezuela.
