Vibrant victory for Dominicans 3-2 over Cuba
LIMA, Peru, September 7, 2018 - Dominican Republic claimed a
vibrant 3-2 victory over Cuba (25-22, 18-25, 23-25, 25-20,
15-11) on the second day of action of the II Final Four U20
being held at Manuel Bonilla Coliseum of Miraflores in Lima,
Peru.
The spectacular Dominican blocking was again his weapon to
overcome their rivals with an advantage of 18-12. The Cubans did
better in the fundament of attack (44-51) and services (7-11).
The Dominicans had 29 unforced errors against 37 by Cuba.
Captain Natalia Martinez, with 24 points, was the top scorer of
the game, including 17 attacks, 5 blocks and two aces; also
contributed in the winning cause Liliannis Feliz and Erika
Asencio, with 12 points each and Sthefany Gonzalez with 10
points. The Cuban attackers with double digits were Ivy Vila
(24), Ailama Cese (17) and Evilania Martínez (10).
Dominican captain Natalia Martinez: "Today we returned to our
level, yesterday it was a very bad game for us, today Cuba tried
to complicate us with their serve but we knew how to defend
ourselves by stopping their attack with the aggressiveness of
our blockade".
Cuba's top scorer, Ivy Vila: "We had a tough opponent, but we
know that each one gave their best effort and we were very close
to winning, but today we lacked a bit of definition in the
attack, but we know that we have a lot to show" |
