Victory for Suriname men’s team in Caribbean championships
PARAMARIBO. Suriname, July 24, 2023.- The national men's volleyball team
of Suriname has achieved success on day two of the eighteenth Caribbean
Volleyball Championships. Martinique was beaten in a five-set thriller
3-2 (21-25, 26-24, 21-25, 25-19, 15-8) on monday evening in the Anthony
Nesty Sports Hall. Their opening game was lost to Barbados in straight
sets on sunday.
David Pinas of the Suriname men team closed the game with a spike
through the middle. He became Suriname's top scorer with nineteen
points, including fourteen kills and five blocks. It is now important
for Suriname coach Carlos Orta that this trend is continued.
Team captain of Suriname Sporkslede contributed seventeen points
(thirteen kills, three blocks and one ace) to the win. Ethan Asimia had
sixteen points (ten kills and six blocks). Lohan Lefaivre and Jordan
Marie-Antoinette each finished with sixteen points at Martinique.
Carlos Orta, Head Coach of Suriname:
“We played better tonight than yesterday. The pass was also better. It
was an important game and I'm glad the players kept believing in each
other. One notable change was Anferney Schmeltz playing as a libero
instead of Joshua Dwarkasing. Dwarkasing did not play well in the first
match, hence the switch.”
Keven Sporkslede, captain of Suriname:
“It is now important to know what it feels like to win,” said the
captain. “We haven't got everything out yet, but at least this was much
better than the disappointing performance in the first game. We are now
going to work on the points for improvement to come out stronger in the
next game.” |
