Volleyball Family Set to Gather in Portugal for 39th FIVB World Congress

November 14, 2024.- The countdown is on for the 39th FIVB World Congress, set to take place from 15-17 November 2024 in Porto, Portugal, where the global Volleyball Family will elect a new President of the FIVB for the period of 2024-2032.

Alongside the presidential election, delegates will also vote to fill several key roles, including positions on the Board of Administration and representatives for gender-minority members, reinforcing the FIVB’s commitment to diversity and inclusivity in its governance structure.

The FIVB nomination process for these elections has followed the latest good governance practices. Calls for nominations opened on 15 March 2024 and closed on 15 July 2024, four months before the Congress, and were clearly communicated to all Continental Confederations and FIVB Board of Administration members.

The only candidature received was from Fabio Azevedo, upon which the FIVB Advisory Electoral Committee conducted a thorough integrity check confirming his eligibility. Delegates of the global Volleyball Family are now set to vote on his candidacy on 16 November in accordance with the FIVB Constitution.

Azevedo, the current General Director of the FIVB, has resided and worked in Switzerland for the past 11 years and played a central role in FIVB operations.  His experience in volleyball administration, stretching back nearly 30 years, and unwavering dedication to the sport’s sustainable growth uniquely position him to lead the FIVB into its next chapter.

A comprehensive release on the achievements and legacy of Dr Ary S. Graça F°, who has led the FIVB since 2012, will be distributed following the opening day of the Congress.
