TURRIALBA, Costa Rica, September 25, 2015 – The Promotional Tour
of Volleyball Grassroots Clinics across Costa Rica made a stop
in Turrialba following visits to Liberia, Grecia and Abangares
as the program to encourage children of both genders to practice
the sport continues with remarkable results.
The program created by the Costa Rican National Volleyball
Federation, has the support and collaboration of NORCECA
Confederation.
After many years of producing volleyball players of high quality
besides agricultural and dairy products, volleyball fell into
oblivion and just a handful of players came out of the sugar
region of Turrialba until this initiative of the Costa Rican
Volleyball Federation has sparked the local association to go
back to its roots.
With the speech by the president of the National Federation,
Edgar Alvarado Ardon, about the importance of initiation in the
sport at a young age, the participants showed interest to start
developing new talents from Turrialba to convert the region into
a pipeline to feed future national teams of volleyball.
The current president of Turrialba Youth Volleyball Club Mario
Romero Tortos, is a young native of the area who is battling to
captivate kids and youngsters and get them in love with the
sport that once was the most popular in the region.
Romero Tortos studied at the School of Sciene of Human Movement
at University of Costa Rica and has put his experience in
volleyball and education to the service of game.
For Henry Rodriguez, director of the grassroot volleyball, the
development of new talents will serve to fill up the teams and
future national selections as he is of the opinion that building
the future is a key to compete with possibilities of achieving
success.
Alvarado Ardon announced the upcoming stops of the development
clinics where boys and girls will enjoy having facilities to
play volleyball.
The clinics will take place in Hatillo, San José (October 18),
Santa Bárbara, Heredia (October 24), Neily, Puntarenas (October
31), Aserri, San José (November 8) and Guácimo, Limon (November
28). |
