2015 - After beginning their training camp prior to the FIVB
Mens U21 World Championship, the National Team of Canada held a
meeting with media representatives and Local Organising
Committee officers.
The team coached by John Barrett, also had their photo day
session at the Olympic Rings Plaza, and also had a question and
answers session with some journalists.
“We are happy to be here early, to get used to the climate. To
get used to the training facilities. We are very lucky to be
here early before the competition. So our athletes can get some
time training here,” said coach Barrett.
Canadians are part of a young team and after the last cuts, the
final roster with 12 players prepare in Tijuana as they expect
to set the ball in play on September 11 at the Multi-Purpose
Gym.
“This is our second year in a row, and We’ve held our tryouts
for the team after the Norceca world championship qualifyier in
El Salvador,” remembered Barrett, who was accompanied by Team
Manager David Mcallister as well as Assistants Vincenzo Mallia
and Brock Davidiuk, and Phyisical Therapist Kevin Montgomery.
Players also had their headshot session, before the Preliminary
Inquiries, that are scheduled a couple of days before the
beginning of the compettition.
“We are lucky to be here. It is really nice to stay in a place
like this, a good facility and the residence is really close”,
said outside hitter Ryan Nickifor and who has also been the
captain of the team at international tournaments.
Nickifor and his teammates held a double session on Sunday as
well as on Monday with a morning workouts at fitness gym, as
well as court work. Some other teams that are expected to arrive
early for training camp are China and Egypt, on September 3rd. |
