Webb-Mc Kenzie fires Jamaica to fifth spot
PORT-OF-SPAIN, AUGUST 9, 2014: Ryck Webb-Mc Kenzie found his
scoring touch as Jamaica outlasted Suriname in five tough sets
25-16, 25-18, 22-25, 21-25, 19-17 to claim fifth spot in the
Men’s Division of the 15th Senior Caribbean Zonal Volleyball
Association (CAZOVA) Championship at the Jean Pierre Complex,
Mucurapo.
Webb-Mc Kenzie who had a quiet night against Trinidad and Tobago
in the quarterfinals on Friday ended with a team-high 31 points
which included 22 kills, seven aces and two blocks while the
consistent Jamion Hartley added 15 valuable points, laced with
12 kills and two aces.
Captain and team live-wire Dellan Brown also chipped in with
eight points for Jamaica in its first win in four matches which
was helped by 42 errors from Suriname compared to its 31.
Suriname also held the advantage on kills, 54-49 and blocks, 9-8
while Jamaica showed its service superiority with a 13-7 edge.
For Suriname, Keven Sporkslede did his best to secure victory
for his team with 31 points, comprising 26 kills, three blocks
and two service aces while the pair of Antoine Vliet and Clyde
Fraser chipped in with ten apiece, and Furgil Ong-A-Fat, six, in
the loss.
In the matches that followed record ten-time champions Barbados
came up against Curacao while defending champions Bahamas faced
host T&T with the third placed playoff and final set for Sunday.
