William Rivera Named the Player with Most Improvement in LVSM 2024
SAN JUAN, Puerto Rico, October 27, 2024: William Rivera, outside hitter
for the Gigantes de Adjuntas, was selected on Sunday, as the “player
with Most Improvement” of the 2024 season of the Men’s Volleyball
Superior League (LVSM) by the Puerto Rican Volleyball Federation (FPV).
Rivera, who stands 6 feet tall and recently turned 24 in September, led
the 2024 season awards with 49 votes.
Over 65 sets, Rivera recorded 195 kills, 15 blocks, and 10 aces,
totaling 220 points with an average of 3.38 points per set.
“I have no words; I’m trembling with emotion. It’s been a tough year
with ups and downs for my team, but the hard work on and off the court
has paid off. I’m excited and grateful to receive this news and to be
chosen for this award,” William said when he received the news.
“There’s nothing more valuable than this, and I dedicate the award to my
family and my volleyball teammates who have always believed in me,”
Rivera concluded.
Ismael Alomar, middle blocker for the Gigantes de Carolina, placed
second in the voting with 35 points.
Heriberto Maldonado, also of the Gigantes de Adjuntas, came in third
with 22 votes, followed by Noah Meléndez of the Indios de Mayagüez in
fourth place with 19 votes.
In fifth place, with 13 votes, was Diego Negrón of the Cafeteros de
Yauco, while Julio Mercedes of the Plataneros de Corozal finished sixth
with 9 votes.
Others who received votes included Guillermo Moya and Ramón Matos
(Plataneros de Corozal), Rafael Cora (Indios de Mayagüez), and Willie
Varela (Cafeteros de Yauco).
Tonight, the Gigantes will play their third quarterfinal match against
the Changos de Naranjito. Although they face elimination, William, now
the Most Improved Player, told us that the Gigantes are focused on
extending the series with a crucial win. |
