Williams and Araya of Costa Rica Central American Senior Beach
Champions
GUATEMALA CITY, Guatemala, August 26, 2023 - Undefeated and showcasing
their remarkable improvement on the sand, Costa Ricans Ángel Williams
and Kianny Araya were crowned champions of the 21st Central American
Senior Beach Volleyball Championship, held in Guatemala.
Williams and Araya, who also hold the Central American under 21 title,
defeated Nicaraguans Nahima Silva and Lolette Rodríguez 2-0 (21-19,
21-16) in the championship match to secure their first gold medal at
the senior category.
“We conclude another tournament, emerged victorious, it was a
tournament with a lot of pressure, but we achieved the result. We want
to thank all the people who are always supporting us, all our coaches,
and we are very satisfied with the outcome” highlighted Williams.
Araya, on the other hand, expressed that the result is that of the
effort and sacrifice they have been working towards, “it’s the outcome
of the constant effort we’ve been putting in to achieve this goal,
which makes us very happy considering the news we just received that
we are qualified for the senior world championship in Mexico. We thank
all the people who support us”.
On their road to the gold medal match, champions Williams and Araya
defeated Kathya Vásquez/Sofía Velázquez (ESA1) 2-0 (21-17/21-09) in
the semifinals, while Silva/Rodríguez (NCA1) overcame Guatemala’s
Natalia Girón and Paola Alvarado 2-0 (21-15/21-14).
Natalia Girón and Paola Alvarado team one of Guatemala completed the
podium with the third place after defeating El Salvador’s Kathya
Vásquez and Sofia Velázquez (ESA 1) 2-1 (15-21/21-18/11-15).
