Willis sisters take Costa Rica to their second victory
CORDOBA, Mexico, November 17, 2014 - The Willis sisters, Angela
and Verania closed with 20 and 16 points, respectively, in the
victory of Costa Rica over Trinidad and Tobago, to get their
second victory in the pool phase at the XXII Central American
and Caribbean Games.
Channon Thompson and Sinead Jack finished with 7 points each, on
the Trinidadian side.
Costa Rica dominated in the blocking department 14-6, and also
in service with a 4-2 advantage. The Costa Rican team
surrendered 22 points to Trinidad and Tobago, whose errors gave
26 to the opponent.
“We are very glad for this victory. Today we followed up our
tactical plan. We kept a very good concentration and took the
best from our rivals, said Angela Willis. “We tried to avoid the
same mistakes we had been making before. I think that today we
played more solid as a team.”
Horacio Bastit, coach of Costa Rica remarked: “the experience of
my player (Angela) is relative. She has a lot of game experience
but had played previously as a middle blocker. She’s 37 years
old, but in her new position has been playing for a few months.”
Kelly Anne, Billingy, captain of Trinidad and Tobago said: “We
congratulate Costa Rica. We don’t know what could happen at this
time. We played very flat. We tried to improve in some things,
but what we need to try is to close the competition the best way
possible.”
Trinidadian coach, Nicholson Drakes stated: “I am not happy with
this result. Congratulations to Costa Rica. We are in a special
process with our group.”
