With 10 aces by Mambru, Dominican Republic open
off on the right foot
CORDOBA, Mexico, November 15, 2014 - Dominican Republic had no
problems against Venezuela as they won in straight sets 25-6,
25-15, 25-16 at the Cordoba Arena.
Gina Mambru registered 15 units and Prisila Rivera 10 for
Dominican Republic. Mambrú aced 10 times against the South
Americans who managed their blocking game and closed with 4, one
less than the Dominicans.
Maria Jose Pérez and Roslandy Acosta scored 9 points apiece for
Venezuela.
Venezuela surrendered 75 points by error against 37 by Dominican
Republic, that registered a total of 18 collective aces against
only 1 by Venezuela.
“The most important thing is to begin, but we take one match at
a time to face each team”, stated Bethania de la Cruz de Pena,
captain of Dominican Republic.
“We faced the best team of he competition. They finished fifth
at the world championship, so it was pretty complicated against
us,” Venezuelan captain Desiree Glod told to the media.
“We arrived here in Veracruz, working so hard, and recovered
phisically from the World Championship and we will try to do our
best tomorrow,” indicated the coach of Dominican Republic,
Marcos Kwiek.
“We must recognize that Dominican Republic is among the top of
the world, after that championship, they even fought for the
chance of a medal. It was a tough match and we need more
inception at the international level,” Venezuela’s coach Sergio
Rivero commented. |
