GUAYMAS, Mexico, April 1, 2016 – Playing the whole day under
strong windy conditions, the women pairs battled in their
respective pools especially the winners of the previous event in
Guatemala Kelly Reeves and Allison Daley-McColloch of United
States-B.
In Pool C, they scored a victory over Amber Bennett/Melanie
Valencia of U.S. Virgin Islands 21-15, 21-8 who also lost to
Julie Gordon/Brandie Wilkerson of Canada-A, silver medalists in
the first leg of the circuit, so it seems the two berths to the
quarterfinals are defined.
There was a lot of action with a very animated crowd in the
stands for this competition which marks the first time Guaymas
is hosting one of the stops of the NORCECA Circuit, serving also
as a test event for the Olympic qualifier to be played in June
in the city located between sea, desert and hills with one pair
per gender will get tickets to Rio Games.
In other matches of Friday, in Pool A Jamaica’s Kai Wright and
Danielle Perry won 21-8, 21-4 over Guatemala’s Ada Villalobos/Dayrin
Leticia Alarcón who also tumbled against Claudia Rios/Gloria
Santoyo of Mexico-A who gave the fans something to cheer for
with a 21-6, 21-13 outcome.
In Pool B, the second local pair of Diana Estrada/Ana Rios
defeated Salvadorans Kathya Vasquez/María Vargas 21-14, 21-19
but couldn’t do the same against Kimberly Dicello/Kendra
Vanzwieten of United States-A, winners 21-11, 21-18.
Also the local team of Stephanie Burnside/Zaira Orellana of
Mexico-C defeated Veronique Berthelot/Sylvia Sidney of
Guadeloupe 21-10, 21-8 who were also beat by Rachel
Cockrell/Camille Saxton of Canada-B 21-6, 21-9.
