Women's Beach Volleyball Quarterfinal Spots

SANTO DOMINGO, Dominican Republic, July 28, 2026. – The race for the quarterfinals intensified after four days of women's beach volleyball competition at the XXV Central American and Caribbean Games Santo Domingo 2026, with several teams securing crucial victories on Tuesday. The final preliminary round matches on Wednesday will determine the first- and second-place finishers in each pool, with the top two teams advancing to the knockout stage.

In Pool A, host duo Crismil Paniagua and Julibeth Payano claimed an important 2-0 (21-15, 21-16) victory over El Salvador's Karla Tovar and Daniela Vigil to improve to 3-0 and remain alone atop the standings. Meanwhile, the U.S. Virgin Islands' Vernecia Caines and Verneeci Caines rallied past the Cayman Islands' Luna Ebanks and Joanna Robinson 2-1 (10-21, 21-18, 15-6).

Wednesday's showdown between El Salvador and Belize's Nelissa Ramírez/Clara Sabal will determine the second team advancing from the pool.

In Pool B, Cubans Maykelin Drik and Kailin Garrido moved into first place after handing defending champions Allanis Navas and María González of Puerto Rico their first defeat, winning 2-1 (21-19, 16-21, 15-12). Costa Rica's Marcela Araya and Eugenia Ramírez also stayed in contention with a convincing 2-0 (21-5, 21-5) victory over Martinique's Karine Francois and Carole Herve.

Puerto Rico and Costa Rica will meet on Wednesday in a decisive match, to secure a  quarterfinal berth.

Pool C has two unbeaten teams. Mexico's Susana Torres and Abril Flores improved to 3-0 after defeating Honduras' Reizel Bruhier and Shanna Rivera 2-0 (21-18, 21-12), while Guatemala's Paola Alvarado and Naomi Monney cruised past Grenada's Thornia Mitchell and Renisha Stafford 2-0 (21-2, 21-10).

Mexico and Guatemala will square off on Wednesday with first place in the pool at stake.

In Pool D, Venezuela's Valeria Moreno and Darlin Rodríguez remained unbeaten by defeating Jamaica's Jillian Johnson and Krisstina Lumsden-Miller 2-0 (21-10, 21-4). They are tied atop the standings with Nicaragua's Socorro López and Lolette Rodríguez, setting up a winner-take-all match for first place in the pool.

With quarterfinal places and pool titles still to be decided, Wednesday's final preliminary round promises several decisive matchups as the competition moves closer to the medal rounds.
