PUNTA CANA, Dominican Republic, July 3, 2021 –
The duos of Puerto Rico, Canada, Mexico and Cuba
progressed to the semifinals of the NORCECA
Women’s U23 Beach Volleyball Qualifier to the
Junior Pan American Games.
All those teams in the final-four stage are
qualified to the event to be held in Cali,
Colombia from November 25 to December 5.
Puerto Ricans Allanis Navas and Maria Gonzalez
were the first to advance after their 2-0 (21-7,
21-9) victory over Nicaragua’s María Zeledon and
Anielka Alonzo in just 25 minutes.
Navas/Gonzalez will meet Canada’s Becky Tresham
and Kaylee Glagau who defeated Guatemala’s Paola
Alvarado and Laura Quiñones 2-0 (21-12, 22-20)
in 39 minutes.
Mexicans Katherine Albarrán and Atenas Gutiérrez
advanced to the semifinals following their
success against Jeneiry Rosario and Luz María
Carty of Dominican Republic-B 2-0 (21-13, 21-6)
and will go against Cuba’s Lazara Madan and
Dayani Zequeira who beat Costa Rica’s Ximena
Núñez and Angel Williams 2-0 (21-12, 21-13).
The other two spots to the Cali Games will go
the winners of the matches between Nicaragua vs.
Guatemala and Dominican Republic-B vs. Costa
Rica to be played early on Sunday.
