Bello Twins win gold for England
NASSAU, Bahamas, July 22, 2017 – Twin brothers Luis Javier Bello
and Joaquin Bello representing England won the boys’ gold medal
of beach volleyball at the Youth Commonwealth Games Bahamas 2017
on Saturday.
The Spaniard-born Bello brothers defeated Constantinos Skordis
and Sotiris Siapanis of Cyprus 2-0 (21-16, 21-14) to claim the
top place on the podium at the award ceremony.
The Bello family moved from Madrid to London six years ago when
the kids were just 11 years-old. They turned 17 last Wednesday,
so they had reasons to celebrate.
“It was a spectacular tournament well organized and I want to
thank the volunteers and all who made possible this
competition,” Luis Javier said.
“Parts of our game were created in both countries so I feel very
proud of representing England and also Spain,” he added.
“We have been playing together since we were 6 years-old and
train almost every day. I want to dedicate this medal to all the
juniors of our countries,” Joaquin said.
Australia’s Mark Nikolaidis and James Takken took home the boys’
bronze medal with a 2-0 (21-12, 21-21-16) over Ghana’s Kelvin
Carboo and Eric Tsatsu. |
