SANTO DOMINGO, Dominican Republic, March 17,
2021 - The members of the Dominican Republic
Women's Volleyball Team who are not reinforcing
in foreign leagues received the first dose of
vaccine to prevent the COVID-19 virus spread
throughout the world.
The first to be vaccinated was Prisilla Rivera,
the captain of the Caribbean Queens, who was
accompanied by Cristóbal Marte Hoffiz, president
of the Women's Program of the Dominican
Volleyball Federation. The vaccine was
administered by Dr. José Joaquín Puello, a
neurosurgeon, who is president At Vitam of the
Dominican Olympic Committee.
The Dominican Republic team, to which Rivera has
belonged since 2003, is one of 12 teams
qualified for the women's tournament at the
Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games.
The vaccination program for Dominican athletes
classified or to be classified for the Olympic
Games is coordinated by the Ministry of Sports,
headed by Francisco Camacho, in collaboration
with the Ministry of Public Health and the
Dominican Olympic Committee chaired by Antonio
Acosta.
"We must give thanks to the Ministry of Sports
for the initiative to manage the vaccination of
athletes classified for Tokyo who in the coming
months will be participating in competitions
prior to the appointment in the Japanese
capital," said Rivera. "The health of the
athletes and the commitments that lie ahead have
been taken into account."
The Dominican National team has been training
for months inside a bubble in order to maintain
the competitive form of the players and at the
same time ensure their health.
