Dominican Winifer Fernandez wins MVP Honors at NORCECA U-20 

MANAGUA, Nicaragua, August 26, 2012. - Dominican Winifer Fernandez was selected as the Most Valuable Player of the NORCECA Women’s Junior Continenta Championship. Fernandez, who also took home the trophy as the best digger, the best receiver and the best libero, was the most awarded player during the closing ceremony. Dominican Republic’s players also claimed the titles for best scorer by Brayelin Martinez and best blocker by Angelica Hinojosa. Cuba´s Sulian Matienzo was the best spiker and teammate Marilyn Pages the best setter. Dominican Republic are the NORCECA U-20 Champions

MANAGUA, Nicaragua, August 26, 2012 - Dominican Republic won the gold medal by defeating Mexico 3-1 (25-19, 25-21, 24-26, 25-11) at the NORCECA Women’s Junior Continental Championship on Sunday night at Managua’s “Polideportivo Esapaña”. This is the first title for Dominican Republic in the history of the competition with its seven previous editions. Dominicans have reached the gold match in the past four editions against USA. For Mexico this is their second silver medal. Brayelin Martinez tallied 26 points leading the Dominicans to win the gold in a match that lasted. More  Español

USA win NORCECA U-20 Bronze and qualify to FIVB WCH

MANAGUA, Nicaragua, August 26, 2012 - USA captured the last NORCECA ticket to the FIVB 2013 World Championship winNing over Costa Rica by 3-0 (25-18 , 25-14 , 25-22) for the bronze medal at the NORCECA Women’s U-20 Continental Championship. Costa Rica did well, in the first they tied it at 18 points and most of the third set they were up in the score but couldn’t keep it up. The top scorer for the Americans was Azariah Stahl with 11 points and Haleigh Washington scored 9. On the Costa Rican side, Angie Montero topped.  More  Español

Cuba beat Nicaragua for fifth place 

MANAGUA, Nicaragua, August 26, 2012. – Cuba beat Nicaragua in straight sets 25-4, 25-8 and 25-10 to claim the fifth place at the NORCECA Women’s Junior Continental Championship. Sulian Matienzo had the highest score for the Cubans with 13 points, 11 of them in direct attacks, Anet Aflonso and Yalennis Diaz collected 8 apiece. Cuba finished with a 2-2 win-loss record, while Nicaragua registered 1-2. Florelisa Smith Nicaragua’s captain indicated “we did our best effort and I’m satisfied with my team, we knew that a favorable result was very difficult.”   More  Español

Mexico against Dominican Republic in NORCECA U-20 Gold Match 

MANAGUA, Nicaragua, August 25, 2012. - Mexico defeated Costa Rica in straight sets 25-16, 25-19 and 25-19 making it into the final match of the NORCECA Women´s U-20 Continental Championship. All the players for the wining team had the opportunity to see action. Mexico had advantage 5-1 in the blocking category and Costa Rica 6-2 in serves. Dominicans make sensational comeback, book ticket to FVIB WCH 

MANAGUA, Nicaragua, August 25, 2012 – The Dominican Republic completed a sensational come back by overcoming United States 3-2 (22-25, 13-25, 25-21, 25-22, 15-10) to advance to the gold medal match of the NORCECA Women’s Junior Continental Championship. As finalists of the continental competition, the Dominicans secured one of the three vacancies of NORCECA to the 2013 FIVB Women’s Junior World Championship to be held in Czech Republic. Guatemala ends in seventh place 

MANAGUA, Nicaragua, August 25, 2012 - Guatemala finished in seventh place of the NORCECA Women’s U-20 Continental Championship after a victory over Trinidad & Tobago by 3-0 (25-7, 25-16, 25-7) on Saturday.  Guatemala held a 16-4 advantage in aces, including 11 by Maria Alvarez who only scored via serves to lead the winners. USA meets Dominican Republic at NORCECA U-20 Semifinals

MANAGUA, Nicaragua, August 24, 2012. - USA won the quarterfinal match against host Nicaragua by 3-0 (25-10, 25-7, 25-7) at the NORCECA Women’s U-20 Continental Championship and will play Dominican Republic in one of the semifinals on Saturday. USA had no resistance from Nicaragua and used all their players during the course of the match. Sainz leads Mexico over Cuba

MANAGUA, Nicaragua, August 24, 2012 – Lizbeth Sainz amassed 33 points, including five blocks, to lead Mexico to a thrilling five-set victory (25-15, 25-19, 21-25, 14-25, 15-12) over a resilient Cuba in the first quarterfinal of the NORCECA Women’s Junior Continental Championship on Friday night. Alejandra Isiordia contributed 23 points to the victory of Mexico who now play Costa Rica in one of the semifinal matches. The other quarterfinal featured United States playing Nicaragua. Sulien Matienzo collected 32 points for Cuba, with 30 via attacks. Yaremis Mandero had 22 points with five blocks while Yalennis Diaz had four blocks among her 12 points.  More  Español

Guatemala earns first victory

 

MANAGUA, Nicaragua, August 24, 2012 - Guatemala beat Antigua & Barbuda by 3-0 (25-8, 25-8, 25-13) for their first victory at the NORCECA Women’s U-20 Continental Championship. The Guatemalans took advantage of 30 errors from the losers and were better in the serves category 14-1. Guatemala will play Trinidad & Tobago for the seventh position of the tournament while Antigua & Barbuda finished in ninth place. The best scorer for the winners was Ada Villalobos with 12 points, including 2 blocks and 3 aces. Costa Rica claims Pool A over Nicaragua

MANAGUA, Nicaragua, August 23, 2012 – Costa Rica defeated Nicaragua 3-0 (25-10, 25-23, 25-14) in a clash between Central American teams at the NORCECA Women’s U-20 Continental Championship. Costa Rica scored a total of 10 aces against one from Nicaragua; they claimed the first place in Pool A and are among the top four of the tournament. Angie Montero was the best scorer for Costa Rica with 15 points along with Yuliana Gonzales with 10; while on Nicaragua’s side the best was Florelisa Smith with 7 points. MANAGUA, Nicaragua, August 23, 2012 - USA put aside Cuba’s plans to finish top in Pool C by claiming a 3-1 score (19-25, 25-23, 25-23, 25- 16) at the NORCECA Women’s Junior Continental Championship. Dominican Republic wins Pool B at NORCECA U-20 

MANAGUA, Nicaragua, August 23, 2012 – Brayelin Martinez piled up 33 points leading Dominican Republic to a 3-1 (25-20, 21-25, 25-16, 27-25) victory over Mexico in the match for top place in Pool B of the NORCECA Women’s Junior Continental Championship. Dominican Republic held a 15-5 advantage in the blocking category while Mexico topped 7-4 in serves. Mexico pressed in the fourth as the Dominicans weren’t able to seal the match until the second match point. Gaila Gonzalez contributed 12 points to the victory of Dominican Republic. Successful debut for Nicaragua

MANAGUA, Nicaragua, August 22, 2012. – Nicaragua had a successful debut at the NORCECA Women’s Junior Continental Championship by defeating Antigua & Barbuda 3-0 (25-12, 25-13,  25-12). Host Nicaragua found their rhythm from the beginning earning their first match of the tournament while Antigua & Barbuda suffered their second loss in their first NORCECA tournament. Nicaragua will face Costa Rica to define the first place in Pool A. Florelisa Smith was the top scorer for Nicaragua with 12 points. Antigua’s Natasha Best finished with 5 points. Solid Cuban squad downs Trinidad & Tobago 

MANAGUA, Nicaragua, August 22, 2012 - Cuba trounced Trinidad & Tobago 3-0 (25-13, 25-8, 25-14) in their first presentation at the NORCECA Women’s Junior Continental Championship. The Cuban squad had a solid performance but was not challenged by Trinidad & Tobago who now have a 0-2 win-loss record. Cuba was superior in serves by 12-1. Tomorrow’s stellar match features Cuba against USA for the top place in Pool C. The stats of Cuba show Sulian Matienzo as the best scorer with 11 points. MANAGUA, Nicaragua, August 22, 2012- Dominican Republic dominated Guatemala in straight sets (25-7, 25-3, 25-13) in their first match of the preliminary round at the NORCECA Women’s U-20 Continental Championship. The Dominicans controlled the actions with advantage of 17-2 in blocks and a huge margin of 10-1 in aces. The Guatemalans lost their second match while Dominican Republic are heavily walking towards the qualification and will battle Mexico for the first place of Pool B. Brayelin Martinez was the highest scorer for Dominican Republic with 27 points, including 6 blocks. Lourdes Cruz was the top scorer for Guatemala with 6 points.

Mexico outclasses Guatemala for first win 

MANAGUA, Nicaragua, August 21, 2012. - Mexico outclasses Guatemala 3-0 (25-11, 25-11, 25-3) for their first win in Pool B at the NORCECA Women’s Junior Continental Championship. The Mexican squad had no opposition from the Central American champions and had no mercy with 12 aces and a 9-2 advantage in blocking as each team must add the most number of points as possible in the preliminary round. Mexico had in its captain Alejandra Isiordia with 14 points its top scorer followed by Lizbeth Sainz with 10 points and for Guatemala Lorena Valle with 3 points was the best scorer.  Isiordia indicated.  More  Español

MANAGUA, Nicaragua, August 19, 2012 – Dominican Brayelin Martinez, will be one of the main attractions during the NORCECA Women’s Junior Continental Championship to be held in Nicaragua from August 21-26. Martinez, who turns 16 next month, is one of the most promising players from the Dominican Republic Female Program. She already made her debut with the senior team taking part in last year’s FIVB World Cup in Japan and also in this year’s FIVB World Grand Prix. Nicaragua to host NORCECA Women’s U-20

MANAGUA, Nicaragua, August 17, 2012 – Teams from nine countries will compete at the NORCECA Women’s U-20 Continental Championship in Managua from August 21-26. The medal winners of the competition are granted of spots in next year’s FIVB Women’s Junior World Championship to be held in Czech Republic. United States and Dominican Republic have won the gold and silver medals respectively in the past four editions of the championship with USA winning the title in five of the total seven editions.   More  Español
