Sander wins MVP honors
Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, July 14, 2012 - Taylor
Sander, who heavily contributed to the gold
medal won by USA team in the VII Men´s Pan American Cup, was
selected as Most Valuable Player of the event that concluded
here on Saturday night. The 20 year-old Sander was not alone in the closing ceremony as
two other teammates were recipients of individual awards.

USA, champions of Men’s Pan American Cup

defeated Argentina in straight sets (29-27, 25-20, 25-21) to
claim the gold medal and give their country its fifth victory in
the Men’s Pan American, that concluded here on Saturday.
Both teams arrived into the finals with undefeated records where
the South Americans had to settle for their second.

Mexico finished fifth at Men’s Pan Am Cup

Venezuela claim seventh place in Men’s Pan Am Cup

clinched the seventh position in the VII Men’s Volleyball Pan
American Cup by outplaying Trinidad & Tobago in a five-set
affair that finished 27-25, 18-25, 25-20, 25-27 y 15-13.
Hector Salermo collected 17 points as top scorer of the winning
side while Josher Contreras and Kevin Piñerúa added 16 and 15.

Republic secured a ticket to the playoffs of the FIVB World
League after outdueling Mexico 3-1 (23-25, 25-19, 25-21, 30-28)

Cup after prevailing in four sets against Canada on Thursday.
The South Americans were able to recover from a shaky start to

advanced to the semi-finals after edging Dominican Republic in a
match that took five sets. The score finished 21-25, 25-23,
25-17, 20-25 and 15-13. The best scorers for the winners were
Mariano Giustiniano with 21 points, Gonzalo Quiroga had 19 and

Canada reach quarterfinals
Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, July 11, 2012 - Canada earned
their place in the quarter-final round after defeating Trinidad
Tobago in straight sets (25-15, 25-22, 25-23). The Trinidadians
are disqualified from the VII Men’s Pan American Volleyball Cup.
The best scorer for Canada was Christopher Hoag with 10 points,
9 of them via spikes auction, while the best of Trinidad and
Tobago was captain Nolan Tash with 11, 10 of by attacks.
The Canadian team finished the first round in third place in
Group A with a 1-2 record, while Trinidad and Tobago could not
achieve a single victory in their three games.

Mexico to quarterfinals after win over Venezuela
Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, July 11, 2012 - Mexico
defeated Venezuela in straight sets (25-21, 25-21, 25-23) to
claim their first win and secure third place in Group B of the
VII Men’s Pan American Cup.
Daniel Vargas (11) and Pedro Rangel (10) were the biggest
contributors to the winning cause but it was the Venezuela’s
Kervin Piñerua who topped the scores with 21 points.
Jorge Miguel Azair, technical director of Mexico, noted that
"Venezuela are a team that is growing, but their players went
out more pressured than us and that was the difference. I knew
that the team with fewer errors would win so we forced our
opponents to be the ones who committed.

Historic Dominican victory over Canada
Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, July 10, 2012 - Dominican
Republic won their first ever victory over Canada in men’s
volleyball with a 3-0 (25-23, 25-20, 25-17) victory on Tuesday.
It was the second victory for the home side in Pool A, while the
young team of Canada suffered its second loss.
One experienced trio led the winners’ offense with 17 points by
Elvis Contreras followed by Jose Miguel Caceres and Ernis
Palomino with 14 and 12 respectively. Braden McLean topped the
North Americans who led in blocks (12-4).

Brazil unstoppable against Venezuela
Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, July 10, 2012 – The young
Brazil team was unstoppable as they dominated Venezuela to add
another victory in three sets (25-20, 25-15 and 25-16) in a
match of Pool B of the VII Men’s Pan American Cup.
The top scorer of the clash was Brazilian Cargnin Franco, who
contributed 12 points, followed by Tiago Barth with 10 while all
their players had the chance to participate. Venezuela’s Luis
Arias and Kervin Piñerua finished with 8 tallies.
There was a fairly competition in attacks with a 33-32
difference for the winners, but didn’t surprise that the taller
Brazilians dominated 9-2 .
