USA’s Maya Ogbogu Named MVP as United States Dominates NORCECA Girls’ U17 Continental Championship in Costa Rica

SAN JOSÉ, Costa Rica, November 9, 2025. – Maya Ogbogu of the United States was named Most Valuable Player (MVP) of the 2025 NORCECA Girls’ U17 Continental Championship, after leading her team to an impressive gold medal finish without dropping a single set throughout the tournament. The event took place from November 4 to 9 at the Gimnasio Nacional in San José, Costa Rica. Ogbogu also earned the First Best Spiker award, highlighting her outstanding all-around performance. Her teammate Lexi Coleman joined her among the best attackers, being recognized as Second Best Spiker, as the U.S. team completed the competition undefeated with a perfect record. More Español

United States Wins Gold at NORCECA U17 and Qualifies for 2026 FIVB World Championship

SAN JOSÉ, Costa Rica, November 9, 2025. – The United States captured the gold medal at the 2025 NORCECA Girls’ U17 Continental Championship, earning a spot at the 2026 FIVB World Championship, after defeating defending champion Mexico 3-0 (25-20, 25-12, 25-23) on Sunday at the Gimnasio Nacional in San José, Costa Rica. The United States completed the tournament undefeated (5-0), without dropping a single set, to win gold in their first-ever participation at the NORCECA U17 Continental Championship. Mexico finished with a 4-2 record, with both of its losses coming against the United States. This is Mexico’s second medal in the event, having won gold in the inaugural 2023 edition.  More Español

Puerto Rico Captures Bronze at NORCECA U17 Continental Championship

SAN JOSÉ, Costa Rica, November 9, 2025. – Puerto Rico claimed the bronze medal at the 2025 NORCECA Girls’ U17 Continental Championship, defeating the Dominican Republic 3-1 (25-22, 29-27, 11-25, 25-19) on Sunday at the Gimnasio Nacional in San José, Costa Rica. This marks Puerto Rico’s second medal in the tournament’s history, after winning silver in the inaugural 2023 edition.  Puerto Rico closed the event with a 3-3 record, while the Dominican Republic finished 3-2. Puerto Rico held the advantage in attacks (47-38), blocks (9-7), and service points (11-10), though they committed more errors than the Dominicans (38-24). More Español

Canada Takes Fifth Place at NORCECA U17 with Straight-Set Win over Costa Rica

SAN JOSÉ, Costa Rica, November 9, 2025. – Canada defeated Costa Rica in straight sets 3-0 (25-22, 25-20, 25-15) to secure fifth place at the 2025 NORCECA Girls’ U17 Continental Championship, held from November 4 to 9 at the Gimnasio Nacional in San José, Costa Rica. Canada closed the event with a 4-2 win-loss record, while the host team finished 2-4. This was the second time in the tournament that Canada swept Costa Rica, having also done so during pool play. Canada held a dominant 40-11 advantage in attacks, along with a 7-6 edge in blocks and a comfortable 12-6 margin in service aces. Cuba Finishes Seventh at NORCECA U17 Continental Championship

SAN JOSÉ, Costa Rica, November 9, 2025. – Cuba defeated Suriname 3-1 (25-21, 25-22, 18-25, 25-10) to claim seventh place at the 2025 NORCECA Girls’ U17 Continental Championship, held from November 4 to 9 in San José, Costa Rica.Cuba closed the tournament with a 1-4 record, while Suriname finished winless. The Cubans held the edge in serving (16-11) and committed fewer errors (33-44), while Suriname led in blocking (4-3). Both teams scored 50 attacking points. Cuban outside hitter Amanda Mayor led all scorers with 19 points on 12 kills and 7 aces. For Suriname, Cherelle Meulenhof and Zoe Roethof each contributed 16 points. The opening set was tightly contested, with both teams trading points early on. Cuba gained control through Sahily Prats’ quick attacks and Amanda Mayor’s strong serves, taking the set 25-21. Mexico Stages Reverse Sweep to Reach the Gold Medal Match and Defend NORCECA U17 Title

SAN JOSÉ, Costa Rica, November 8, 2025.- Mexico staged a stunning reverse sweep 3-2 (21-25, 15-25, 25-19, 25-20, 15-13) over the Dominican Republic to advance to the gold medal match of the 2025 NORCECA Girls’ U17 Continental Championship, where they will defend their title at the Gimnasio Nacional in San José, Costa Rica. Mexico will face the United States in Sunday’s gold medal match, while the Dominican Republic will play for bronze against Puerto Rico. United States Advances to NORCECA U17 Final After Dominant Win Over Puerto Rico

SAN JOSÉ, Costa Rica, November 8, 2025. – The United States advanced to the gold medal match of the 2025 NORCECA Girls’ U17 Continental Championship after a commanding 3-0 (25-10, 25-10, 25-11) victory over Puerto Rico at the Gimnasio Nacional in San José, Costa Rica. The United States will play for the gold medal against the winner of the other semifinal between the Dominican Republic and defending champion Mexico. Puerto Rico will compete for the bronze medal. This event serves as a qualifier for the 2026 FIVB Girls’ U18 World Championship to be held in Chile, with the NORCECA champion earning a direct berth. Canada Storms Past Suriname at NORCECA U17

SAN JOSÉ, Costa Rica, November 8, 2025. – Canada stormed past Suriname 3-0 (25-9, 25-11, 25-12) at the 2025 NORCECA Girls’ U17 Continental Championship, taking place at the Gimnasio Nacional in San José, Costa Rica. With the victory, Canada will face host nation Costa Rica on Saturday for fifth place, while Suriname will meet Cuba for seventh place. Costa Rica Wins Dramatic Thriller against Cuba to Play for Fifth Place at NORCECA U17

SAN JOSÉ, Costa Rica, November 8, 2025. – Costa Rica outlasted Cuba in a dramatic five-set thriller (25-21, 25-19, 21-25, 19-25, 17-15) to earn a spot in the fifth-place match of the 2025 NORCECA Girls’ U17 Continental Championship, held at the Gimnasio Nacional in San José, Costa Rica. Costa Rica will battle the winner between Suriname and Canada for fifth place, while Cuba will play the loser for seventh position. Costa Rica capitalized on 47 Cuban errors compared to 27 of their own, while Cuba held the edge in attacks (57-41), blocks (11-10), and serves (10-9). Outside hitters Luciana Vargas and Esmeralda Ugalde led Costa Rica’s offense with 18 and 14 points respectively. Vargas scored on 13 kills, one block, and four aces, while Ugalde tallied 13 kills and one block. Yusdely Cabrera of Cuba led all scorers with an impressive 26 points all on kills, followed by Anelys Morales with 19 points (17 kills, 2 aces) and Sahily Prats with 10 points (4 kills, 5 blocks, one ace). Mexico Defeats Costa Rica to Set Up Semifinal Clash with Dominican Republic

SAN JOSÉ, Costa Rica, November 7, 2025. – Mexico booked its ticket to the semifinals of the 2025 NORCECA Girls’ U17 Continental Championship after a dominant straight-set victory (25-15, 25-10, 25-22) over host Costa Rica at the Gimnasio Nacional. The Mexicans will now take on the Dominican Republic for a place in the final. The other semifinal features the United States against Puerto Rico, who advanced after a dramatic five-set win over Canada. Meanwhile, Costa Rica will play Cuba in classification matches for positions 5 to 8. Puerto Rico Heads to Semifinals after Five-Set Win over Canada

Puerto Rico secured their spot among the top four teams of the tournament that serves as qualifier for the 2026 FIVB age-group World Championship, continuing their quest for a medal. SAN JOSÉ, Costa Rica, November 6, 2025. – The Dominican Republic defeated host nation Costa Rica 3-1 (25-20, 25-13, 23-25, 25-11) to close pool play undefeated and advance directly to the semifinals of the 2025 NORCECA Girls’ U17 Continental Championship at Gimnasio Nacional in San José, Costa Rica. By winning one set, the Dominican Republic secured first place in Pool A, while Canada finished second and Costa Rica third. In Friday’s quarterfinals, Canada will face Puerto Rico and Costa Rica will meet Mexico. SAN JOSÉ, Costa Rica, November 5, 2025. – Canada earned a straight-set victory (25-18, 25-22, 25-18) over Costa Rica in Pool A action of the 2025 NORCECA Girls’ U17 Continental Championship at the Gimnasio Nacional in San José. On the final day of the preliminary round, Canada (1-1) will face Suriname (0-2), while Costa Rica (1-1) will take on undefeated Dominican Republic (2-0). The event serves as a qualifier for the 2026 FIVB Girls’ U17 World Championship. Canada led in attacking points (42-20) and service aces (9-1), while Costa Rica held the advantage in blocking (7-5) and committed fewer unforced errors (19-30). Middle blocker Shayla Byrnell topped Canada’s offense with 10 points (6 kills, 4 blocks). Outside hitter Naya Grimm and middle blocker Chloe Dumont added 9 points apiece. The Dominican Republic improved to 2-0 in Pool A and will face host nation Costa Rica in their final pool-play match. Suriname, now 0-2, will meet Canada. Costa Rica Downs Suriname in NORCECA Girls’ U17 Opener

SAN JOSÉ, Costa Rica, November 4, 2025. – Host nation Costa Rica opened the 2025 NORCECA Girls’ U17 Continental Championship with a convincing 3-0 (25-14, 25-13, 25-16) victory over Suriname in Pool A action on Tuesday at the Gimnasio Nacional. On the second day of competition, a qualifier for the 2026 FIVB Girls’ U17 World Championship, Costa Rica (1-0) will face Canada (0-1), while Suriname (0-1) meets the Dominican Republic (1-0). The opening set was tightly contested early on; with both teams trading points up to 11-all. Costa Rica then broke away with strong attacking from Luciana Vargas and effective serving by Charlotte Martínez, combined with several Suriname errors to take a 14-11 lead. SAN JOSÉ, Costa Rica, November 4, 2025. – The Dominican Republic started their 2025 NORCECA Girls’ U17 Continental Championship campaign with a straight-set victory 3-0 (25-23, 25-22, 25-21) over Canada in the opening Pool A match at the Gimnasio Nacional in San José, Costa Rica. Next, the Dominican Republic will face Suriname, while Canada will play against the host team, Costa Rica. The match was tightly contested, with thrilling finishes in every set. Both teams traded points early in the first set until the Dominicans pulled ahead with a kill from Jarolin Durán, a block by Rayni Mondesí, and an ace from Rosaris Peña to lead 13-9. The event serves as a qualifier for the 2026 FIVB Under-17 World Championship. In day two Pool B action, Mexico (1-0) will face the United States (1-0), while Cuba (0-1) will meet Puerto Rico (0-1). Mexico opened the match in dominant fashion with a 7-0 run, taking advantage of Cuba’s early unforced errors. USA Wins Girls’ U17 NORCECA Opener

SAN JOSÉ, Costa Rica, November 4, 2025. – The United States opened the 2025 NORCECA Girls’ U17 Continental Championship with a solid 3-0 (25-13, 25-17, 25-15) victory over Puerto Rico in Pool B action at the Gimnasio Nacional in San José, Costa Rica.

The tournament serves as a qualifier event for the 2026 FIVB Under-17 World Championship.  On day two of the competition, the United States will face Mexico, while Puerto Rico meets Cuba in the continuation of Pool B play. The Americans started strong with a 4-1 run and capitalized on opponent errors to extend the lead to 11-5. Intense Battle Begins for a Spot at the 2026 FIVB U17 Girls’ World Championship

At least one berth to the FIVB 2026 World Championship will go to the NORCECA champion. The FIVB will confirm at a later date the total number of participating teams and, consequently, the number of qualification spots available to NORCECA.
