Top performers recognized as Men’s Continental

Championship concludes

 

MONCTON, Canada, September 16, 2026 – Several individual award winners received tournament honors on the court as the NORCECA Men’s Continental Championship wrapped up in Moncton, Canada.

 

Erik Shoji of Team USA was named most valuable player of the tournament, while Mexico’s Diego González and Dominican Republic’s Enger Miguel Mieses claimed two awards each.

 

Gonzalez was named best opposite and best scorer with a tournament-high 80 points (68 kills, seven blocks and five aces). Mieses, with 63 digs, earned best digger and best libero honours.

 

Cuba garnered three awards, with Alexis Wilson taking best blocker with 21, Christian Manuel Thondike best setter with 167 running sets through the week and Miguel Lopez second-best spiker.

 

Mexico also had three awards, as Juan Garcia earned second-best blocker with 17.

 

The host Canadians boasted two award winners, with Eric Loeppky taking best spiker and Fynn McCarthy running away with best server with 15 aces.

 

Finally, Arnel Cabrera of Puerto Rico was the best receiver.

 

The United States, Canada and Cuba earned spots at 2027 FIVB Volleyball Men’s World Cup in Poland via the six-day tournament. Four teams – Canada, Cuba, Dominican Republic and Mexico – will remain in Moncton to compete for a Los Angeles 2028 Olympic Games spot in the weekend’s final NORCECA qualification stage.
