USA to Face Puerto Rico in Women’s Pan American Cup Semifinals

LEÓN, Mexico, September 16, 2026. – The United States advanced to the semifinals of the 2026 Women’s Pan American Cup with a 3-0 (25-15, 25-19, 25-12) victory over Canada on Wednesday at the Domo de la Feria in León, Guanajuato.

USA will face Puerto Rico on Thursday at 6:00 p.m. In the other semifinal, host Mexico will take on Dominican Republic at 8:00 p.m. Canada will face Cuba in the fifth-place match on Friday.

USA controlled the match with its offense and blocking. The Americans outscored Canada 43-22 in attacks, 11-4 in blocks and 4-1 in aces, although Canada gave up fewer points on errors, 17-19.

After taking the opening set 25-15, USA maintained control in the second and won 25-19. The Americans quickly built a 12-4 lead in the third and extended their advantage to 20-9. Callie Schwarzenbach scored the final point with a kill, sealing the set 25-12 and securing USA’s place in the semifinals.

Opposite Temitayo Thomas-Ailara and middle blocker Callie Schwarzenbach led USA with 13 points apiece. Thomas-Ailara recorded 11 kills and two blocks, while Schwarzenbach finished with 10 kills and three blocks.

Claire Hoffman contributed 11 points, including eight kills, two blocks and an ace. Jessica Mruzik added 10 points on nine kills and an ace. Payton Henderson led Canada with 11 points.

Callie Schwarzenbach, USA middle blocker: “It was a great game. We did a good job of coming out and playing our game, focusing on what we could control, and it paid off. We hope to do exactly the same tomorrow against Puerto Rico: focus on our side of the court and play our game. We haven’t played them yet, so it will be a fun matchup.”

On the possibility of facing Mexico again and the atmosphere at the Domo de la Feria, Schwarzenbach added: “It would be a great atmosphere. When we played Mexico, there was a big crowd, and it was a little difficult to communicate on the court. We’re used to the noise and try to block it out, but it does make it difficult for us to communicate with each other.”
