Brenda Castillo is the MVP of the CACG
CORDOBA, Mexico, November 21, 2014.- Brenda Castillo captured
the MVP Honors at the XXII Central American and Caribbean Games
Women’s Volleyball Finals.
Castillo was distinguished as the Most Valuable Player, Best
Defender, Best Reception and Best Libero. Cuban Melissa Vargas
was the best scorer of the tournament by totalizing 129 points.
Regla Gracia, also from Cuba, and Puerto Rican Aurea Cruz,
received the honors as Best First Attacker and Best Second
Attacker, respectively.
Annerys Vargas of Dominican Republic and Mijal Hines of Costa
Rica, were named Best Blockers. The Best Setter was Dominican
Niverka Marte.

Dominican Republic conquer their fourth crown in a row at CACG
CORDOBA, Mexico, November 20, 2014 - Dominican Republic claimed
the crown at the XXII Central American and Caribbean Games after
beating Puerto Rico in straight sets 25-19, 25-19 and 25-19.
Dominican Republic won their fourth consecutive gold medal and
increased their historical record to six regional championships,
considering the ones conquered in 1946, 1962, 2002, 2006, 2010
and 2014.The Dominicans’ historical record also includes a
silver medal in 1998 and four bronzes in 1966, 1974, 1978 and
1982.

Cuba win bronze medal at Central American and Caribbean Games
CORDOBA, Mexico, November 20, 2014 - Cuba won the bronze medal
of Women’s Volleyball Tournament at the XXII Central American
and Caribbean Games in a five setter against Mexico (24-26,
25-20, 25-17, 22-25, 15-13).
Mexico opened fiercely the first set that was key to mantain the
hope for a tie-breaker. However, Cuba controlled the final
points.
Melissa Vargas was the most effective player of the match,
totalizing 26 points for Cuba. Caridad Matienzo and Regla
Gracia also contributed with 15 and 13 points respectively.

Venezuela clinch fifth place in South American Battle at CACG
CORDOBA, Mexico, November 20, 2014 - Venezuela clinched the
fifth place at XXII the Central American and Caribbean Games
after beating Colombia in five sets (36-34, 21-25, 25-15,
20-25,15-13).
Margarita Martinez guided the Colombian attack with a total of
22 points, to be the top scorer of the match, followed by Amanda
Coneo with 20 and Yeisi Soto with 17.
Venezuela
had more variations on their attack by distributing it among
Roslandy Acosta (19), María José Pérez (18), Desiree Glod (16).

Special farewell to the Willis, Billingy and Ross-Kydd in Costa
Rica’s win
CORDOBA, Mexico, November 20, 2014 -The Willis Sisters, Angela
and Verania wrote their final page defending the national colors
of Costa Rica, that finished in seventh place after beating
Trinidad and Tobago 3-1 (25-19, 25-13, 17-25, 25-18.
But also Jalica Ross-Kydd and Trinidadian captain Kelly Anne
Billingy said good bye to volleyball as they played their last
match of the tournament.

Tournament finalists are ready to play for Central American

November 19, 2014 - Dominican Republic and Puerto Rico will
play for the gold medal on Thursday at the Central American
and Caribbean Games’ Volleyball Tournament at the Cordoba
Arena. Dominican Republic outclassed Mexico in straight sets
(25-11, 25-23, 27-25). Bethania de la Cruz scored 14 points
for Dominican Republic while Prisilla Rivera tallied 13 and
Annerys Vargas 12. Seomara Sainz was the best scorer for
Mexico with 13 points. Second and third sets were very

Caribbean Games
CORDOBA, Mexico, November 19, 2014 - Puerto Rico became the
first finalist of Women’s Volleyball contest at XXII Central
American and Caribbean Games.
Puerto Rico defeated Cuba in 5 sets, by scores of 25-23,
25-21, 14-25, 22-25, 15-13. Melissa Vargas of Cuba, was the
top scorer with 31 points, the highest at the tournament.
Regla Gracia, Alena Rojas and Daymara Lescay tallied 13

Colombia beat Trinidad and Tobago by collecting 38 opponent’s

and Tobago in the second match of the classification round for

CORDOBA, Mexico, November 19, 2014 - Venezuela defeated Costa

Cuba clinch a berth into the semifinals after beating Costa Rica
CORDOBA, México, November 18, 2014.- Cuba clinched a berth
into the semifinals at the volleyball tournament of the XXII
Central American and Caribbean Games after beating Costa
Rica in straight sets (25-17, 25-12, 25-17) at the Cordoba
Arena.
The Cubans had their best weapons in Melissa Vargas who
tallied 23 points, while Verania Willis finished with 8 for
the Costa Rican team that will play for fifth place in next
round.
Meanwhile, Cuba will match Puerto Rico and will try to
explode all their weapons as they did against Costa Rica in
the quartefinals. Serving was the best strategy.

First Class organization at the Cordoba Arena
CORDOBA, Mexico, November 18, 2014.- The organization of the
volleyball tournament developed at the Cordoba Arena for the
XXII Central American and Caribbean Games has been described as
unique and special.
A great joint effort by volunteers, members of the organizing
committee, the Norceca Confederation personnel, ths Staff and
the Control Committee, along with the Central American and
Caribbean Sports Organization (CACSO) has been important to
leave a legacy.

and clinched their second victory at the Central American and
Caribbean Games by winning 3-1 score (25-17, 22-25, 27-25,

the pool phase undefeated at the XXII Central American and

Coneo scores 23 points as Colombia get first win
CORDOBA, México, November 17, 2014 - Amanda Coneo registered
23 points in the victory of Colombia against Venezuela in
straight sets (25-22, 26-24, 25-23) at the XXII Central
American and Caribbean Games.
Margarita Martínez was the second best scorer for Colombia,
with 10 units, while Roslandy Acosta and María José Pérez,
closed with 15 and 13 points for the Venezuelan team.
Colombia capitalized 25 points by error of their rivals,
while Venezuela closed with 21. Blocking game was equal
between both teams, while Venezuela aced three times against

CORDOBA, Mexico, November 16 2014 - México closed with
another night of celebration at the Cordoba Arena after
beating Costa Rica in straight sets (25-15, 25-20 and
25-20). Mexican captain Andrea Rangel topped with 12 points
for Mexico, while Carolina Carranza closed with 10 for

second victory at the XXII Central American and Caribbean
Games after beating Venezuela 3-0 (25-22, 25-20, 25-12).
For the second time in a row, Melissa Vargas, finished with
double digits after closing with a total of 18 points.
Roslandy Acosta was Venezuela’s top scorer with a total of 8
points. Cuba finished with 9 collective ases, four of them
by Gracia and three by Vargas. Venezuela gave up 19 points
while Cuba 22.

First victory for Puerto Rico at CACG

Ceremony of the Central American and Caribbean Games took
part at the Luis “Pirata” Fuente Stadium in Veracruz, the
City of Cordoba prepared for the beginning of volleyball
competition.
The last practical clinic done by volunteers and directed by

Dominicans seek their fourth gold in a row at CACG
CORDOBA, México, November 10, 2014 – The Dominican Republic
women’s team will be seeking for their fourth straight
volleyball gold medal at the XXII Central American and Caribbean
Games of Veracruz 2014.
The Dominican team, sixth in the FIVB world rankings with a
fifth place at the FIVB Women’s World Championship of Italy
2014, are the top favorite to once again win the title of the
competition whose opening matches are scheduled to kick off on
Saturday at the Cordoba Arena.

BVIS workshop in Veracruz ahead of the Games
VERACRUZ, Mexico, November 6, 2014 – A two-day workshop focused
on Beach Volleyball Information System (BVIS) took place at
Centro Rebsamen in Veracruz on November 1-2 in preparation for
the double-gender tournament of the Central American and
Caribbean Games.

third consecutive men’s volleyball gold medal and fourth overall

at Mayaguez Sport Palace on Thursday.
